All WPAL gyms are 100 percent free to youths from 6 - 18 years old and all law enforcement officials. The gyms have a positive impact on local communities by creating relationships between the volunteers and local youth. Those relationships help steer young people away from activities involving crime, violence and drugs. The WPAL gyms give children a place to go after school, on weekends and during the summer months where they can participate in activities of their choice, and be surrounded by positive influences. Children are welcomed to the facility to build up their strength and endurance for athletics, or just for a safe place to go with great mentors there to help. The gym will offer other options besides working out and boxing. There will be mentors available to help youth with homework, give advice, or just to talk when needed. Police Officers will also be admitted to use the Gym FREE of charge. Adults 18 and up are asked to pay a nominal monthly fee.
The Police Athletic League(PAL) is an organization in many communities nationwide in which volunteers (police officers, coaches, teachers or other community members) help young people, both boys and girls, in sports, with homework and other school-related activities. The purpose is to build character, help strengthen police-community relations and keep children off illegal drugs.
